Overview

This face-to-face module develops an understanding of colour, its practical applications to painting and presents information on colour theory. There is scope for students to respond creatively to projects and to build a portfolio of varied work. Extended projects will be available online too through short videos and demonstrations.

The module aims to give you a diverse range of painting and drawing techniques whilst giving the opportunity to develop your own techniques and be self-expressive. It will be taught as a series of workshops with set exercises.

Programme

The module gives further techniques and research into the effects of colour on artworks for the artist and the viewer. This will be taught with a thematic approach considering the effects and histories behind blue, yellow and red.

Unit 4 - Blue

Unit 5 - Full palette

At the conclusion of the course your assessment will take place. Therefore, you will need to have submitted all your work produced on this course including your visual diary.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module, students should be able to:   

  1. Plan, produce, document and present a body of work showing a competent grasp of each primary colour in the context of painting.
  2. Identify particular artists and schools of art.
  3. Evaluate the work of artists and demonstrate an awareness of their work in relation to one’s own
  4. Identify appropriate media and give reasons for their selection.
  5. Produce a visual diary evidencing relevant material.
  6. Show a visually stimulating and creative response to prescribed projects indicating.
  7. Development of an individual style.

 Assessments

  1. A portfolio of paintings (80%)
  2. A visual diary of supporting material including art historical/contemporary study (20%)
