Clearing

Will there be accommodation for clearing students?

Accommodation is guaranteed for clearing students providing you apply by the 1st September in the year of entry and have accepted the offer of accommodation made to you by the deadline date detailed in the Accommodation Offer.

Please note that a place in University owned or managed accommodation is guaranteed, but not a specific type of room or location - please see our Priorities Policy for additional information.

Once I have been offered a place on my course, how do I apply for University Accommodation?

Once you have confirmed your place to study at Aberystwyth University, the Accommodation Office will contact you to invite you to apply for accommodation. They will contact you via email so if you have already activated your Aberystwyth University e-mail account, please ensure you check that regularly.

The invitation will provide you with information on how to make an application. You will require your 10 digit UCAS personal ID number, surname and date of birth to login and apply for accommodation. Further information on how to apply can be found at - How to Apply.

What happens after I have applied for accommodation?

Accommodation is allocated by a computerised system on a ‘first-come first-served basis’ in date and time order of you successfully submitting your application.

Accommodation offers will be sent on a daily basis as applicants fulfil the terms of their offer, in priority order as detailed in our Priorities Policy. We also have a handy step-by-step guide on What Happens Next after applying for accommodation.

How do I activate my Aberystwyth University Account?

Full instructions on how to do this will be sent to you from Information Services shortly after your place has been confirmed. You should activate your Aberystwyth University e-mail as soon as you are asked to do so. This will ensure that there are no delays in securing your accommodation. Once you have activated your Aberystwyth University account all correspondence will be sent to this e-mail address so it is important that you check it on a regular basis.

Why haven’t I been allocated my first choice of accommodation?

We will allocate you a place in residences, taking into account your preferences and will try to offer you one of your higher preferences. However, because the residences vary in the number of students they accommodate and some are more popular than others, obtaining your higher preferences cannot be guaranteed. If there is not a vacancy in your first preference of residence, we will consider all your other choices in priority order until a vacancy can be located.

Please note that certain students have priority and their accommodation may have been allocated as a higher priority than yours, as detailed in our Priorities Policy

Can I change to another residence if I am not happy with my offer?

If you are not satisfied with your offer of accommodation then please contact the Accommodation Office where a member of the team can check alternative availability for you.

What happens if I am on holiday when you send me my offer of accommodation?

Your offer of accommodation will be sent to you electronically and most places should offer internet connection in order for you to check your e-mails regularly. However if you have any issues then please just contact the Accommodation Office.

How much is the Acceptance Fee?

The Acceptance Fee required is £100 payable by credit/debit card using our online payment system.

When will I need to pay the Acceptance Fee?

Once you have accepted your offer of accommodation, you will then be required to complete your Accommodation Occupation Contract by the given deadline date. The Acceptance Fee is payable during completion of your Accommodation Occupation Contract, and is the equivalent of 7 days rent. You will also need to agree to the terms and conditions of your Occupation Contract, set up a payment plan for your accommodation fees and complete our pre-arrival induction programme (which includes selecting an arrival date and time).

Can I request to live in the same flat/house with my friend who is also coming to Aberystwyth University?

Please be re-assured that you will be sharing your accommodation with other first year students, therefore we would encourage you to take the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.

If you would like to get in contact with your new flatmates, you will have the opportunity to share your social media details so that you can make connections before you arrive.

Your details will only be viewed and shared with your flatmates. You don’t have to share your details if you don’t want to, and you can amend or remove them at any time.

When you are selecting your room, you will be able to select a room in the same flat as a friend, subject to availability.

When will I know what room I am in?

You will know your flat/house and room number when you book your room on the Accommodation Portal.

When can I move in?

Please check out our Moving In page which will give you full information on when you can move in.

Where do I collect my key?

Check out our Moving In webpage for information on what to bring, including a pre-arrival checklist and details on when and where to collect your room key from.
