Clearing

Will there be accommodation for clearing students?

Yes, it is! We provide guaranteed University accommodation for clearing and adjustment applicants. To qualify for a guaranteed place, you must ensure that your accommodation application is submitted successfully by the 1st September, that you accept the offer of accommodation made to you and complete the Occupation Contract by the deadline date provided when you book your room. Please note, that a place in University accommodation is guaranteed, but not a specific type of room or location.

Along with providing guaranteed University accommodation for new students, when you live with us, there is no need to worry about fluctuating bills and random due dates. University Accommodation Fees include utilities, internet (plus Wi-Fi) and a high level of personal contents insurance.

FREE Sports Centre Platinum Membership is also provided for your health and wellbeing – More than just a Sports Centre, our Platinum membership includes unlimited access to the gym, swimming pool, climbing wall and all group exercise, health and wellbeing classes.

Payment plans can be made to coincide with the receipt of your student loan money to help with budgeting!

Once I have been offered a place on my course, how do I apply for University Accommodation?

Shortly following confirmation of your place to study at Aberystwyth University you will receive an e-mail from the Accommodation Office inviting you to apply for University accommodation.  This will provide you with information on how to make an application using our online Accommodation Portal. You will require your 10-digit UCAS personal ID number, surname and date of birth to login and apply for accommodation.

You can also check out our handy step-by-step guide on How to Apply for university accommodation.

Due to high demand we have currently closed the self-allocation facility on the accommodation portal.

If you are a student who is guaranteed accommodation at Aberystwyth University, please telephone the accommodation office on 01970 622864 during normal office hours. Outside of this period please email accommodation@aber.ac.uk and we will contact you during office hours.

We do our best to offer you your preferred room type when allocating you a place in accommodation. As the residences vary in the numbers of students they accommodate and many rooms are already reserved, obtaining your higher preferences cannot be guaranteed. We will allocate you into an available room.

Upon receipt of the room offer, you will have 7 days to accept the offer and pay your acceptance fee to secure you room.

What happens after I have applied for accommodation?

When applying for accommodation, you will be able to select your hall and individual room. You can see a list of rooms available when you log onto the portal.

Although we guarantee accommodation for all first-year students, please note that choice of accommodation and rooms are chosen on a first-come-first-served basis and much of our most popular accommodation may already be full.

How do I activate my Aberystwyth University Account?

Full instructions on how to do this will be sent to you from Information Services shortly after your place has been confirmed. You should activate your Aberystwyth University e-mail as soon as you are asked to do so. This will ensure that there are no delays in securing your accommodation. Once you have activated your Aberystwyth University account all correspondence will be sent to this e-mail address, so it is important that you check it on a regular basis.

How much is the Acceptance Fee?

The Acceptance Fee is equivalent to 7 nights' rent and will vary from residence to residence.

Please see our Accommodation Fees page for information on nightly rates.

When will I need to pay the Acceptance Fee?

Once you have accepted your offer of accommodation, you will then be required to complete your Occupation Contract by the given deadline date. The Acceptance Fee is payable during completion of your Occupation Contract, along with agreeing to the terms and conditions of your Occupation Contract, setting up a payment plan for your accommodation fees and completion of our pre-arrival induction programme (which includes selecting an arrival date and time).

Can I request to live in the same flat/house with my friend who is also coming to Aberystwyth University?

Please be re-assured that you will be sharing your accommodation with other first year students, therefore we would encourage you to take the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.

When will I know what room I am in?

You chose your own rooms, so as soon as you’ve chosen a room and followed the process through, you will have secured a room.

When can I move in?

Your Accommodation Occupation Contract will start at 10am on Friday 20th September 2024 and your key may be collected anytime from this date.

On the Accommodation Portal you are required to complete our online pre-arrival induction programme which provides useful information on university life and includes the opportunity for you to book an arrival slot. During the course of your Induction, you will be required to select an arrival date and time which will enable you to download or print your 'Key Release Form'. You will then need to provide a copy of your Key Release Form at check-in to exchange for your room key.

Where do I collect my key?

Check out our Moving In webpage for information on what to bring, including a pre-arrival checklist and details on when and where to collect your room key from.

Usually, you will not be able to move in before the date specified in your Occupation Contract. However, sometimes exceptions can be made. Please see below for further details. If you feel you need to move in early for any other reason not listed below, please contact the Accommodation Office. New students due to arrive in September may arrive early if:

  • You are confirmed to take part in pre-fresher’s activities organised by the Student’s Union.
  • You are invited to take part in the acclimatisation programme.
  • You are part of the international meet and greet service.
  • You are a Nursing Student with a start date in August or on the Veterinary Science Student.

During completion of your Occupation Contract you will be informed that you are required to take up occupancy of your room by 10am on Tuesday 24th September.  However, if you are planning on arriving after this date then you can complete a late arrival booking form and we will then hold your room for you. Please be aware that if you do not arrive by the 24th September and notify us of when you plan to arrive, your room will no longer be available for you.

Please note: you will still be liable for your Accommodation Fees from the start of your Contract even if you haven't moved in.

Our contact details are as follows and the office is open Monday –Thursday between 8.30am to 5pm and 8.30am to 4pm on a Friday.
