Overview
The content of this module will focus on developing an individual creative response to prescribed projects. The methodology will address working from memory, colour theory, the senses and creating atmosphere. Media will include oil, aqueous media and exploration of combining media.
Programme
This module is designed to develop the student’s experience of painting from life and introduce a broad range of painting and colour theory skills thus helping to build and develop your own individual style.
The content of this module will focus on developing an individual and creative responses to prescribed projects, in the form of working from memory, colour theory, the senses and creating an atmosphere. Media will include oil, aqueous media and exploration of combining media. The content will be based around the following themes, lifting and manipulating elements of the image, patterning, and creating a personal response to the still life, portraiture and the landscape.
You will also be asked to research and investigate the significance of painting in historical and contemporary art practice. You will be encouraged to reflect on your own artwork and that of other artists. The course should be very enjoyable, and teaching will be tailored to the individual.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Produce, document and present a body of work showing use of composition, line, mark-making tone and texture.
- Identify particular artists and schools of art.
- Evaluate the work of artists and demonstrate an awareness of their work in relation to one’s own.
- Identify appropriate media and give reasons for their selection.
- Show a visually stimulating and creative response to prescribed projects indicating development of an individual style.
- Produce a visual diary evidencing relevant material.
