Overview
You will access a series of learning units that will develop your drawing skills to collate a series of sketches that include the equivalent skills attained within a traditional figure drawing class. You will be required to execute sketches using a variety of drawing medium and play with compositional techniques to create impact and narrative.
This is a theme that artists have used as the focus for narrative. Examples are Edward Ardizzone, Claudia Williams, John Singer Sergeant, Sorolla and Joan Eardly. Themes will be the seaside, children at play, the domestic home narrative and sleep.
Programme
In preparation for the course, it may be worth searching for family photographs but ideally for some units I would like you to work from life. The materials list and costs are minimal. You will need cartridge paper, pencils biros and pens. Later on in the course we will work in charcoal, ink and conte crayon.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Show a portfolio of Unit tasks demonstrating the skills adopted from each unit complemented by the reflective journal of process and research.
- Create 2 finished drawings focusing on a narrative of depicting children
Assessments

- Portfolio 30%
