AberGrad Tutorial

Your tutorial programme is another element of your time here Aberystwyth University that helps to prepare you for your future life.  Alongside your academic studies, personal interests, part-time work and any other extra-curricular activities in which you engage, the Careers Service provides you with a host of opportunities that encourage you to develop your skills and abilities.  It is our aim that by graduation, you will be well placed to confidently demonstrate the wide transferability of your subject knowledge, skills and experiences recorded and developed throughout your time as an Aberystwyth student.

Through your tutorial process and by completing the AberGrad Skills Checklist you will be focusing on the range of skills future employers will want you to possess.  Engaging in this process will enable you to recognise the skills you already possess, identify skills you can develop and raise awareness of the wide range of opportunities available to help you.

There is a specially designed AberGrad Skills Checklist for each of your years of study. The additional links below will enable you to explore various skills specific activities/opportunities that will allow you to develop further.

Support is also provided within your academic department via a tailored careers education session, which you are strongly advised to attend. Here, you will be guided through the ways you can raise your level of competence in each skill area. As the year progresses you will have the opportunity to discuss your skills development and career thinking with your personal tutor. This being alongside all year round support and advice, which is provided by the Careers Service via drop in and one to one guidance support.

Looking ahead, developing a habit of reflecting on your progress and taking responsibility for your own development will position you well for your future, whatever that may be. For example - further study, graduate employment, setting up your own business/consultancy, working independently, volunteering or taking time out to travel and explore new experiences.
