MRes Biosciences Conference - A Student-Led Showcase of Research Excellence

MRes Conference organisers in 2023
13 February 2025
The Biosciences Conference in the Department of Life Sciences is an annual event run entirely by students, and will this year take place on Friday 7th March. It showcases the diverse research conducted by Master of Research (MRes) students. The conference provides an opportunity for students to present their work as upcoming experts in their field, exchange ideas, and gain first-hand experience in science communication.
The event features oral presentations from MRes Biosciences students and poster displays from MBiol students. Research topics cover a wide range of bioscience disciplines, including proteomics, veterinary parasitology, microbiology, and wildlife conservation. What makes this conference unique is that every aspect, from planning to promotion, is managed by MRes students. By taking ownership of the event, students not only enhance their academic experience but also contribute to the department’s strong research culture.
One of this year's organisers is Aimee, an MRes student researching vaccine hesitancy and public health strategies to improve vaccine uptake. Aimee’s interest in this area was sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic. Witnessing the impact of vaccine hesitancy firsthand led them to explore the social and psychological factors influencing vaccine uptake. This passion brought them to Aberystwyth University. The flexibility of the MRes Biosciences course, combined with the department’s diverse research environment, provided the perfect space to develop as a researcher at the intersection of social sciences and biosciences.
Whether you are a current student, a prospective MRes applicant, or simply someone with an interest in biosciences, this conference is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate student-led research. It also highlights the vibrant scientific community within the Department of Life Sciences at Aberystwyth University.
