Cyflwyniad

Adnoddau Naturiol a’r Economi Gylchol

Erbyn hyn mae’n argyfwng ar gymdeithas yn sgil camreoli amgylcheddol a’r angen i fwydo poblogaeth sy’n tyfu yn ogystal â darparu’r adnoddau eraill sydd eu hangen ar gyfer twf economaidd. Ar y cyfan mae gweithgynhyrchu’n seiliedig ar systemau cynhyrchu llinellol sy’n disbyddu adnoddau cyfyngedig ac ar yr un pryd yn cynhyrchu llawer iawn o wastraff a gaiff ei anfon gan fwyaf i safleoedd tirlenwi. Mae economi gylchol yn ddull cyferbyniol yn seiliedig ar systemau dolenni caeedig sy’n lleihau gwastraff drwy drawsnewid gan ddefnyddio technolegau atgynhyrchiol sy’n parhau i ddefnyddio adnoddau am gyfnod mor hir â phosibl. Mae’r cysyniad wedi’i wreiddio yng ngweledigaeth ymchwil y tîm yn IBERS sy’n gweithio ym maes trawsnewid biomas a bioburo, sef datblygu cynhyrchion a phrosesau bioseiliedig newydd i brysuro’r trawsnewid at fioeconomi gylchol.

Y blaenoriaethau allweddol yw:

1) cynaladwyedd economaidd ac amgylcheddol cynhyrchion bioseiliedig a ddatblygwyd drwy brosesau bioburo

2) defnydd effeithlon o adnoddau, yn cynnwys ail-gipio dŵr proses a chydrannau eraill naill ai i’w cadw yn system y broses bioburo neu i’w hailosod ar y tir i gynnal cynhyrchedd sylfaenol. Drwy ddefnyddio llwybrau bioburo i gau dolenni mewn systemau amaethyddol a chynhyrchu bwyd, nod tîm BCB yw cyflwyno datrysiadau carbon niwtral sy’n gynaliadwy’n economaidd ac a fydd yn cefnogi llesiant cymdeithas.

Ymchwil a Galluoedd

Gallu

Mae ein rhaglenni ymchwil cyfredol yn IBERS yn canolbwyntio ar ddatblygu ac optimeiddio technolegau galluogi ynghyd â dylunio bio-broses yn cwmpasu lefelau parodrwydd technoleg (TRL) 1 i 5. Mae hyn yn cynnwys tywys y prosiectau o’r cam cysyniadol hyd at raddfeydd sy’n berthnasol i ddiwydiant, gan ddefnyddio ein cyfleusterau graddfa beilot (e.e. BEACON (http://beaconwales.org/) ac Aberinnovation (https://aberinnovation.com/)).

Mae’r meysydd penodol o arbenigedd a gallu’n cynnwys:

  • bioleg synthetig yn cynnwys darganfod a datblygu ensymau a microbaidd (TRL 1-3)
  • technolegau swmp-wahanu ac echdynnu (TRL 2-5); rhag-driniaeth biomas thermocemegol a biocemegol (TRL 2-5)
  • gwyddoniaeth eplesu (TRL 2-5)
  • treulio anaerobig (TRL 1-3),
  • prosesu a phuro diweddarach yn y broses (TRL 2-5).

Rydym ni’n gweithio ar borthiannau niferus fel cnydau ynni, gwellt amaethyddol, bagasse cansen siwgwr, grawn darfodedig bragwyr, gwymon, gwastraff solet trefol, gwastraff prosesu tatws, ar gyfer cynhyrchu cynhyrchion niferus i’r diwydiannau bwyd iach, cosmetig, toddyddion gwyrdd, biogyfansawdd, bioynni a bioblastigau/pecynnu.

Ymchwil sy’n helpu i greu economi gylchol

Mae ymchwilwyr IBERS yn gweithio mewn nifer o feysydd fydd yn cyfrannu at ddatblygu’r economi gylchol. Ymhlith y meysydd a amlygir mae:

A) Asid lactig ar gyfer cynhyrchu bioblastig o wastraff solet trefol; mae’r gwaith hwn yn benllanw ymchwil drwy nifer o ffrydiau cyllido yn cynnwys dau brosiect Innovate UK a Menter Cyd-gyllido Diwydiannau Bio-Seiliedig (cyllid Horizon 2020) ac mae’n cynnwys adeiladu cyfleuster ar raddfa arddangos gyda throsglwyddo technoleg o Brifysgol Aberystwyth.

B) Xylitol o wellt amaethyddol; cynhyrchu xylitol mewn modd biodechnegol. Melysydd naturiol yw hwn sy’n atal pydredd dannedd mewn plant, sy’n cynnwys »70% o werth caloriffig siwgwr bwrdd ac sy’n addas i bobl ddiabetig. Fe’i cyllidwyd gan Climate-KIC, drwy Sefydliad Arloesi a Thechnoleg Ewrop (EIT), Llywodraeth Cymru, Innovate UK, Plants to Products BBSRC NiBB a BBSRC a Chronfa Newton gan arwain at lansio cwmni deillio PA ARCITEKBIO Ltd i fasnacheiddio’r dechnoleg.

C) Metabolion protein a bioactif o wastraff bwyd; tarddodd y gwaith hwn o gyfres o raglenni ymchwil a gyllidwyd gan Innovate UK a Llywodraeth Cymru.
