Reaching Wider Partnership
Raising Awareness - Raising Aspirations - Raising Attainment
Aberystwyth University is a member of the North and Mid Wales Reaching Wider Partnership, a Higher Education Funding Council for Wales funded project. The collaborative projects’ mission is to engage with young people aged 10 to 16 years, and adults 21 and over with no Higher Education qualifications, from areas within the bottom two quintiles of the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation.
We also work with care experienced young people and carers from across the region.
Reaching Wider North and Mid Wales Partnership's (RWNMWP) mission is to widen access by increasing the number of Reaching Wider priority groups who would not have otherwise considered entering Higher Education from the most deprived areas in North and Mid Wales.
The purpose of the RWNMWP is:
- To widen access to level 4 Higher Education a variety of methods and delivery mechanisms, working across areas of deprivation in North and Mid Wales with a variety of providers.
To reduce barriers to HE entry and increase thus educational aspirations of individuals and thus help them to succeed at Level 4 Higher Education.
Priority will be given to the groups identified by HEFCW which are:
Individuals and groups who live in the bottom two quintiles of the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD) which is the lowest 40% of WIMD population. Within these areas we will focus on identifying and engaging with;
- Young people who are in their final years of primary school through to Key stage 4 (age 16) in the lowest 40% of the WIMD population
- Adults over the age of 21 who do not have a level 4 qualification in the lowest 40% of the WIMD population
- Care experienced individuals of all age groups
- Carers of all age groups
