Student Profiles

Hyosub Kim

(BA International Politics)

"The best things about the University were the friendly environment for international students, the great Interpol department with various and quality modules I can choose from, friendly tutors and locals, the beautiful campus and the town, and relatively low living costs than other regions.

Aberystwyth is a very beautiful coastal town that I felt as if I were on holiday during my stay. Nice beaches to hang out with friends and the beautiful Welsh nature around the University cured my stresses and homesickness!

My study in Aberystwyth helped me to gain a basic ground of what I do now; a wide range of study schemes offered for students within the department has helped me to widen my view in international matters. Especially, I appreciate the quality lectures and seminars provided for me by the great faculty. The modules I took will continuously be my firm ground for my career in the international development sector. Especially, my degree helped me to get my former job in human development projects in Ghana and the current one in the Red Sea countries.

Don’t be in self-doubt if you can ever survive studying and living here - you will have sufficient supports from the university and your new friends in Aber. You can expand your academic area of interest as you study along in Aber from various modules offered for you. Aber has relatively low living costs than other regions of the UK so consider this factor! I am now serving in United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime (UNODC) as a Project Support Officer (UNV)"
