Student Profiles

Alexandra Fouracres

BSc (Econ) in International Politics with a minor in German

I chose Aber because of the reputation of the International Politics department and I wasn't disappointed. I remember many of my courses and lecturers still, along with the experience of living near the sea and meeting so many new people.

My degree helped me get my first proper job which was in Luxembourg. The company knew I didn't have relevant experience but they were looking for someone to start at the bottom who had a degree. Now I work with fraud intelligence and as a positive psychology practitioner.

It's more important than ever now to make the right choices when you go to University. I hope this doesn't deter people from taking subjects like International Politics. If it's what you want to do, do it. What is harder now, with the changes in funding, is second chances. So my advice to any student really is to get it right. If you aren't sure what to study, wait until you are.
