Postgraduate courses
MPhil and PhD
We are proud of our research and welcome postgraduate research students, whether from the department in Aberystwyth or from elsewhere. The MPhil is a one-year research degree. You will write a dissertation of 60,000 words on any subject in the area of Education and/or Childhood Studies, under the supervision of a specialist in your chosen subject. The PhD is a three-year research degree and leads to a doctorate. You will write a thesis of 80,000-100,000 words on any subject in the area of Education and/or Childhood Studies, under the supervision of a specialist in your chosen subject.
DProf
A Professional Doctorate or “DProf” is designed to allow qualified professionals to study towards a doctorate while maintaining their employment. With support from Aberystwyth Graduate School, DProfs are awarded to postgraduates who successfully complete a taught programme of study, alongside further study and research. To ensure relevancy, real-world application and policy-related change, this research can be directly linked to your organisation.
MA Education (Wales)
Our MA Education (Wales) degree is a sector-leading initiative, which has been developed collaboratively by seven universities in Wales. The programme is open to applications from teachers holding Qualified Teacher Status, from early career teachers to senior leaders, who are currently employed in the compulsory education sector in the UK. Funding is available for teachers resident in Wales.
We would be very pleased to respond to enquiries from students who are interested in these degree pathways. Please contact Dr Lucy Trotter [lut22@aber.ac.uk] for further information.
