The Welsh Department at Aberystwyth University is delighted by its Research Assessment result. We submitted more research in Welsh and Celtic Studies than any other university in Britain and Northern Ireland, and 65% of it was placed in the highest two categories of international excellence, with a quarter in the 'world-leading' class. This result places us among the top four institutions in Britain and Northern Ireland, along with the Anglo-Saxon, Norse & Celtic Department in Cambridge, the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies, also in Aberystwyth (a non-teaching institution), and the University of Ulster. Following on our brilliant score in the previous Assessment, the result demonstrates that teaching excellence and research excellence can go hand in hand. It is very good news for potential research students and undergraduates.
