Building on its excellent performance in the 2016 National Student Survey, Aberystwyth University has been shortlisted for University of the Year by the 2017 Whatuni Student Choice Awards.
Announced by WhatUni.com today Friday 3 March 2017, Aberystwyth University is also shortlisted in another four categories; Accommodation, Courses & Lecturers, International and Postgraduate.
The Whatuni Student Rankings are based on averages taken from thousands of reviews submitted by students and published on Whatuni.com.
They cover Accommodation, City Life, Clubs & Societies, Courses & Lecturers, Job Prospects, Student Union, Uni Facilities, Support Services, Overall rating ‘University of the Year’, and International.
Two new categories have been introduced this year, Postgraduate and Giving Back.
Aberystwyth’s inclusion in the ‘International’ and ‘Postgraduate’ categories reflects the overall rating given by international and postgraduate students respectively.
The listings take into account the views of more than 27,000 students at 130 universities.
This year 127 universities met the minimum threshold to be considered for a Student Choice Award.
Aberystwyth University Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor John Grattan said: “We are delighted to have been short-listed for five awards by Whatuni, this underlines once more that Aberystwyth is an exceptional place to learn and live. Students lie at the heart of everything we do here at Aberystwyth University as borne out in our outstanding results in the 2016 National Student Survey which placed us best in Wales and the fourth best broad-based university in the UK for overall student satisfaction. We continue to invest in the student experience here and it is very rewarding to see this acknowledged by our students.”
Aberystwyth University recently completed a comprehensive £8.5m modernisation programme of learning and teaching spaces and opened its new £45m student residences, Fferm Penglais which was awarded a 5* accommodation rating by Visit Wales in November 2016.
Marcella Collins, Managing Director UK, of Whatuni.com parent company Hotcourses Group, said: “One of the most common criticisms we hear from students is that it’s too difficult to navigate the HE landscape, so this has become our driving force. We present critical data to students in a way that’s easy for them to understand and helps them make life-changing educational choices.”
The official 2017 Whatuni Student Rankings will be announced on 6 April at a ceremony in London. You can follow all the action on the night with the hashtag #WUSCA.
