Aberystwyth University celebrates One World Week

Aberystwyth University will celebrate the richness and diversity of its international student community between Monday 7th and Sunday 13th March.

One World Week, in its second year and organised by the University’s International Office with the Students Union, recognises the contribution international students make to Aberystwyth University and the local community.

Events kick off with a Gala Evening at the Students Union on Monday the 7th of March at 7:30pm where students from China, Malaysia, Ghana, Thailand, Papua New Guinea and others will showcase their talents.

On Thursday 10 March, the Students Union will host a World Fair with stalls run by students, societies and departments and featuring information on the countries that international students come from along with music, food and drink, traditional dress, quizzes, language skills and presentations. There will also be a prize for the best stall at the Fair which runs from midday until 4 pm.

On Thursday there is also an opportunity to view video diaries and presentations made by eight Aberystwyth University students who visited Yosano in Japan during January 2016.  This takes place in the Main Hall of the International Politics Building from 6:30pm.

Closing the festival on the Sunday is the eagerly awaited and popular Malaysian Night held by the Malaysian Society, which showcases the diversity of Malaysian culture and which will be held in the Arts Centre (doors open at 6pm).

University chefs will also be contributing to the One World Week festivities, with different dishes from different regions and countries across the world being served in Tamed Da.
