The applications have been shortlisted, the candidates are preparing their pitches and the judges are ready to grill the finalists. 

Who will be the winner of InvEnterPrize 2014?

With the countdown on until the reveal of the InvEnterPrize Competition winner, final preparations are underway for the Dragons Den panel on Monday 24th March.

Staff and students are invited to join the ‘Big Reveal’ from 4pm in the School of Management and Business, where the judges will announce which business idea has secure the coveted £20,000 InvEnterPrize 2014 prize package. 

“With only a few days to go until the Dragons’ Den, excitement is building for the conclusion of the InvEnterPrize Competition 2014” commented Tony Orme, Enterprise Manager in the Department of Research, Business & Innovation.

From a strong field, the candidates that have been invited to pitch their idea to the panel of Aberystwyth Alumni judges are:

  • ‘Politicus’  - Dominik Wojan & Maria Meadows
  • ‘AlgaeBloom’ – Mick MacMonogail
  • ‘ByteDrive’ – Laia Manuel Viejobueno / Sam Hunt
  • ‘Cyclops Cameras’ – Greg Dash 
  • ‘Florence-Taylor’ – Lucy-Jane Norman

Following an intensive day of Dragon’s Den interviews on Monday, the panel of Alumni will reveal the winning student business idea in the Foyer of the Rheidol Building, Llanbadarn Centre from 4pm.  Refreshments will be available with the announcement expected at 4.15pm.

The judging panel who will be grilling the finalists consists of:

Jane Clayton - A qualified practising chartered accountant, Jane is also an experienced non-executive Director.  She is currently Chairman of Bay Leisure Limited and Treasurer of St David's Medical Foundation.

Donald Davies - Emeritus Professor in Toxicology at Imperial College London and a Founding Director of ML Laboratories plc (pharmaceuticals) one of the first public biotechnology companies to be listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Nigel Davies - After graduate and postgraduate studies in Aberystwyth, Nigel worked for 30 years in corporate technology and business. In 2003 he was the founding director of Innoval Technology, which is a UK, technology-based consultancy with a global client base.

Peter Gradwell - Peter studied Software Engineering at Aber, graduating in 2002. While at University he founded his own internet communications company, Gradwell dot com Ltd which now employs 65 people and has an annual income of over £7m.

Huw Morgan - Former Head of Business Banking, HSBC Bank plc, Huw worked for HSBC for the majority of his working life. He was most recently responsible for Business Banking and Franchising for the UK

David Sargen - Managing Partner of Derivatives Risk Solutions LLP, a specialist risk consultancy providing expertise across a broad spectrum of disciplines within the financial industry, with a particular focus on the global derivatives market.
