Psychology success

The Department of Psychology at Aberystwyth University has been awarded national accreditation by the British Psychological Society, the internationally recognized UK learned society responsible for ensuring standards of quality within the subject.

The announcement has been made following a successful accreditation visit on Wednesday 19 June by the British Psychological Society.

Aberystwyth University has a long tradition of academic excellence and continually looks to improve their offer to students as shown by the introduction of, and investment in, the Psychology Department nearly five years ago.

During the last few years the department has worked to successfully build its reputation for the quality of its degree and the care of its students, and has already achieved top place in the National Student Satisfaction Survey which records how happy students are in their chosen courses at universities around the UK.

Professor Kate Bullen, Director of the Institute of Human Sciences, and Head of the Psychology Department, said: "We are delighted that our degrees are nationally accredited by our professional body. We can confidently say that not only will our students be happy studying here, they will also receive the very best training in psychology, providing them with the right foundations for future success and job prospects as Aberystwyth University Psychology graduates.

“We have a hard working team in psychology who, just shy of our department's fifth birthday, has made this accreditation possible so quickly, I'm really proud of everyone.

“All of us are passionate about our subject and want to share our enthusiasm with as many people as possible which means that we teach university students but are also to be found in schools and at science festivals and open days.

“Psychology is already one of the most popular subjects to study in the UK and our accreditation means that we can look forward to continued success."
