The safest and riskiest universities for student-relevant crimes were published today (Tuesday, June 19) by the Complete University Guide.
Aberystwyth has been ranked as the safest University in Wales to study, and the second safest in England and Wales.
Compiled from official police data, the ranking gives the clearest picture possible of the crime rates for 103 universities in England and Wales.
Joining Aberystwyth at the top of the list with the lowest overall crime rates are Buckingham (1st) and Durham (3rd).
Aberystwyth University’s Pro-Vice Chancellor for Student and Staff Services, Rebecca Davies said “We’re delighted with the outcome of The Complete University Guide’s survey which positions Aberystwyth as the safest University in Wales to study.
“There is an excellent community spirit here in Aberystwyth. We feel that there is a great relationship between the University and the community; in particular through our vibrant Arts Centre, the well-equipped Sports Centre and our excellent research engagement events like the Science Café.
“The inclusive and safe environment in Aberystwyth recently received national recognition with Aberystwyth becoming the first Welsh town to have been awarded Purple Flag status for its nightlife and providing evening visitors with an “entertaining, diverse, and safe night out".
“This recognises what a wonderful environment we have in Aberystwyth, which is vital for our outstanding success in student satisfaction and in our business and community relationships.”
