(Wales: the first and last colony)

Next Monday evening, the 16th of November 2009, the Institute of Welsh Politics, Aberystwyth University, will welcome Adam Price MP to deliver their Annual Lecture.

This will take place in the International Politics Building on Penglais Campus at 7.00 p.m. and will be delivered this year by Adam Price M.P. His lecture is entitled Cymru: Y Coloni Cyntaf ac Olaf Un (Wales: the first and last colony). The lecture will be delivered in Welsh with simultaneous translation available.

Adam Price is a Plaid Cymru Member of Parliament for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr since 2001, having retained the seat in the 2005 General Election with a much increased majority. A former managing director of an economics consultancy firm, Adam speaks for Plaid Cymru at Westminster on Treasury and Trade and Industry matters.

In 2002 he won the Spectator Magazine Parliamentary Inquisitor of the year, for his exposure of the Prime Minister's letter to his Romanian counterpart on behalf of the Labour donor Lakshmi Mittal.

In 2003 he uncovered a twenty year old European directive that has formed the basis for a legal challenge against the government by the workers of Allied Steel and Wire following the loss of their pensions. He has lead a campaign on the issue of the mistreatment of Iraqis and more recently called for the Prime Minister's impeachment for his conduct in relation to the war in Iraq.

However, he has recently announced that he will be stepping down from his Westminster role at the next General Election as he has won a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to study devolution and economic development at a top graduate school in the United States.

Speaking ahead of the lecture, Professor Roger Scully, Director of the Institute of Welsh Politics, said that “he was delighted that Adam Price had agreed to deliver the Institute of Welsh Politics' Annual Lecture for 2009, and looks forward to what promises to be a vibrant and engaging talk”.
