Fathers and daughters celebrate
This year's graduation ceremonies gave particular cause for celebration for two fathers and their daughters.
On Thursday afternoon leading cancer specialist Dr Alan Axford was made Fellow of Aberystwyth University. During the same ceremony his daughter, Dr Rachel Rahman, was awarded a PhD for her work at the University's Department of Sport and Exercise Science.
Dr Rahman studied the motivational aspects of cardiac rehabilitation. She now joins the newly established Department of Psychology as a lecturer where she will be teaching psycho-biology and the psychology of health.
Penrhyncoch father and daughter, Roger and Jodi Bennett, received Masters degrees at two separate ceremonies earlier during the week.
Roger was awarded and MSc (Econ) in Strategic Studies from the Department of International Politics. His success follows his recent appointment as Head of Civil Contingencies and Resilience within the Fire Service in Mid and West Wales.
Jodi received and MA in Audience and Reception Studies from the Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies on Tuesday afternoon. A former member of staff at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Jodi was recently joined Cardiff based Welsh National Opera as a Marketing Offier.
Speaking after receiving his award on Wednesday morning, Roger said; “Thank you very much Aberystwyth University. It has been an eye opening experience, one that has given me skills and attributes I never thought I had.”
