Professor Michael Byers speaks at Aberystwyth on Arctic Sovereignty
On Tuesday, 8 January 2008 Professor Michael Byers from the University of British Columbia will deliver a speech entitled ‘Arctic Rush: Climate Change and International Politics in the Far North' at Aberystwyth University.
The lecture takes place at 6pm in the Steve Crichter Room of the International Politics Building.
Professor Michael Byers is Professor of Political Science and holds a Canada Research Chair in Global Politics and International Law at the University of British Columbia. Prior to 2005, he was Professor of Law and Director of Canadian Studies at Duke University; from 1996-1999 he was a Fellow of Jesus College, Oxford University.
Professor Byers writes and teaches on issues of Arctic sovereignty, military force, the law of the sea, and Canada-U.S. relations. He is leading a project on the Northwest Passage as part of ArcticNet, a consortium of scientists from 27 Canadian universities and 5 government departments. He is the author, most recently, of Intent for a Nation: What is Canada For? (Douglas & McIntyre: 2007), and a regular contributor to the London Review of Books, Globe and Mail and Toronto Star.
