“Promoting opportunities. Stimulating Communities. Improving the quality of life.”
A major new initiative to offer free training for people living in ten County Council areas in Ceredigion is being launched at the Edward Richard Centre, Ystrad Meurig on Monday 20th February by the University of Wales, Aberystwyth (UWA).
Dysgu Gyda'n Gilydd / Learning Together will be offering training opportunities, which could include anything from genealogy to computer skills, or car maintenance to art, for people living in the communities of Llangeitho, Lledrod, Tregaron, Llanfihangel Ystrad, Llanarth, Llangybi, Capel Dewi, Troed yr Aur, Llandyfriog and Penbryn.
However, any training will only take place following extensive consultation with the individuals and representatives from local organisations that live in the communities themselves. The result will be a two year programme of training opportunities designed specifically for each community.
The meeting at Ystrad Meurig, which starts at 7.30 p.m., is aimed at people living in Lledrod, Ystrad Meurig, Swydd Fynnon, Pontrhydfendigaid and Pontrhydygroes. The second meeting in this area will be held at Tregaron Memorial Hall on Tuesday March 14th at 7.30. This meeting will be for people living in the Tregaron area.
The manager for the project is Dafydd Wyn Morgan of the School of Education and Lifelong Learning at UWA.
“This is a very exciting project which could bring important benefits both to individuals and the communities where they live. By working with each community we hope to be able to identify their particular needs and offer individuals opportunities which would not be available otherwise.”
“We have set a target of enrolling over 140 individuals over the two years of the project. There are three criteria for a person to be eligible; they must be over 16, and unemployed or in part or full-time low paid employment and live within the 10 designated areas (see above). Help with childcare will also be addressed along with careers guidance,” he added.
The project is part funded by the European Union – the European Social Fund. It is based in Ceredigion Mid Wales and targets individuals and groups within 10 Objective 1 Priority 3 wards of the County.
