Mathematics Graduates, 2024

Congratulations to Mathematics students who graduated this week.

Following the ceremony it was a pleasure to award prizes to a number of graduating students for exceptional performance in Mathematics.

Pennington Prizes for Pure Mathematics, in memory of Prof. Barry Pennington, Head of Pure Mathematics 1961-1968, were awarded for outstanding performance in Pure Mathematics to John Aaltio, Trys Hooper and George Lee, from our MMath year, and to Shubh Joshi and Patrik Liba on our three year degrees. 

The O.L. Davies Prize for Statistics, in memory of Prof. Owen Davies, Head of Statistics 1968-1975, was awarded to Kiara Kearney for the best performance in Statistics.

 

 

A V.C. Morton Prize for outstanding performance in Mathematics, in memory of Prof. Vernon Morton, Head of Pure Mathematics, 1923-1961, was awarded to Charlotte Bankes.

A T.V. Davies Prize for Applied Mathematics, in memory of Prof. T.V. Davies, Head of Applied Mathematics 1958-1967, was awarded to Rachel Seaborne for excellent performance in Applied Mathematics.

The Clive Pollard Prize for Mathematics, named for a former student who graduated in Pure Mathematics in 1972, was awarded to Felicity Penrose and Alicia Southern for their improved performance in the final semester.

George Lee and Trys Hooper also receive prizes from the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) for the best overall performance.

Prizes have also been awarded to non-finalists; we will congratulate these students in person when they return in September.
