Profile

Lisa is the Field Lead for Mental Health on the BSc Nursing Programme at Aberystwyth University and lectures in Mental Health. She is the module coordinator for ‘Complex Field Specific Nursing in Mental Health’, and ‘Innovative Practice’. Lisa is the lead for Tr-ACE within the Healthcare education Department, and leads on the social prescribing garden project ‘Green gatherings’, she is co-lead for Mental Health Simulation and HENA (Healthcare Education Network Aberystwyth), which advocates service user involvement in the nursing curriculum, student led projects, SSE's, and all HEC events.

Lisa is a registered Mental Health Nurse, qualifying and registering with the NMC over twenty years ago, in 1998. She also studied Systemic & Family Psychotherapy at the renowned Barnardo's Family Institute, in Cardiff, and later at Pontypridd University of Glamorgan, gaining a PGDip in 2005.

Lisa has extensive knowledge and skills from working in many areas in mental health service, sCAMHS, Adult and Older Adult. Her curiosity, determination and passion about providing preventative services led her to initiate a Perinatal Mental health Pilot in 2012 in Hywel Dda University Health board, advocating collaboration with midwifery and health visiting services. Lisa developed a unique and innovative perinatal pathway and service model, which enabled the ‘early identification’ of women who were perceived to be ‘at risk’ of developing PMH conditions, which she later extended to the whole health board footprint, leading the specialist service for Hywel Dda University health Board. This led to Lisa's role with PHW as the National Clinical Lead for PMH, where she assisted other health boards to initiate their own specialist service's. Lisa then promoted and advocated for ‘Parent Infant Mental Health’ Services, after working with PIPUK and attending Psychodynamic training at the Tavistock & Portman, and writing a service plan and model for Hywel Dda University health Board.

Lisa is passionate about ensuring that all student nurses are ‘Trauma-Aware’ upon registration and in promoting the work of TSW and ACE Hub Wales to ensure Wales becomes a Trauma aware nation. she  has initiated a ‘Special Interest Group’ with students and is also creating a CPD Postgraduate module, which will enable all qualified healthcare professionals to become ‘Trauma-Skilled’. This work is being co-produced with Ace Hub Wales.
