Profile
Ellie is an Adult Field Nursing Lecturer who contributes to all programmes of study at the Department on Healthcare Education here at Aberystwyth University. Moving away from home in Powys, Ellie studied nursing at The University of Edinburgh, gaining a Bachelor of Nursing degree with honours.
At the start of her career, Ellie worked in the district nursing service in Edinburgh, providing 24/7 care to a large caseload of patients for several years. This is where her passion for palliative and end-of-life care started.
During Covid-19, Ellie moved home to Wales, where she has worked in a variety of post’s for Hywel Dda, Powys Teaching Health Board, and the independent sector. Ellie has a diverse background which gives her unique insights into the journey patient’s take, from their teenager years, through life, and in death. Ellie is experienced in a vast array of clinical skills and enjoys both acute and community care.
Ellie is the Palliative Care Lead for the Healthcare Education Department, promoting the integration of essential palliative care education themes into the curriculum, ensuring nursing graduates are skilled in delivering comprehensive, compassionate care at all stages of life.
Ellie is also the lead for the Healthcare Education Network Aberystwyth (HENA). HENA is a key part of our department and ensures the voices of service users is heard throughout the programme. By integrating members of HENA into our lectures, interviews, clinical skills, and content creation, we can ensure the care and skills we are teaching our students is always holistic and patient centred.
Moving into education straight from clinical practice, Ellie is passionate about teaching the future NHS Wales workforce, and inspiring future nurse leaders. Ellie sat on national and government boards as a student nurse herself and is keen to engage students in the many opportunities available to them during their time at Aberystwyth University.
