One Health
Intro
One Health
One Health recognises the inter-dependence of human, animal and environmental health and emphasizes the multidisciplinary nature of collaboration needed to secure that health. According to the One Health Global Network, the aim of One Health is “to improve health and well-being through the prevention of risks and the mitigation of effects of crises that originate at the interface between humans, animals and their various environments”.
Historically, the health of people or animals was defined as the absence of disease, but this developed into concepts of well-being and then, more recently, as the ability to manage change and be sustainable. This more holistic approach is reflected in One Health, not only in regard to the factors that affect health but how research, policy formulation or interventions are implemented. Over seventy percent of emerging human diseases are zoonotic in origin, illustrating the importance of addressing both human and animal risks.

This multisectoral roadmap details ten priorities for addressing zoonotic tuberculosis in people and bovine tuberculosis in animals. It calls for concerted action through broad engagement across political, financial and technical levels, including government agencies, donors, academia, non-governmental organizations and private stakeholders.
