Using other Higher Education Institutions' libraries

SCONUL Access is a reciprocal service supported by most of the higher education libraries of the UK and Ireland. Aberystwyth University is a member of this scheme which means that certain categories of users can use other HE institutions libraries. These categories are:

  • staff and research students
  • part-time, distance learning & placement students
  • taught postgraduates

More information on the scheme can be found on the Sconul website.

National Library of Wales

Applicants aged 16 and over can apply for a readers ticket to consult the Library's collection. Please note that you can only access materials in the reading rooms - you cannot borrow materials from the National Library. Search the catalogue.

You can apply for a ticket online at http://psr.llgc.org.uk/psr/psr/register/en/personal. Please make a note of your ticket number and take it with you when you visit the Library, where the ticket will be processed fully. You can also register online in Reception when you arrive at the Library. Registering online also enables you to register for access to the electronic resources available through Athens. Tick the box on the self registration form, which states that you wish to be supplied with an Athens personal account. You must include an e-mail address on your application form to register for this service, as an e-mail containing your Athens registration details will be sent directly to you by the Athens Administrator.

You must bring with you 2 proofs of identity, one of them showing your current address. No ticket can be issued without adequate proof of identity being given.
