The Marie Curie Host Fellowships for Early Stage Research Training (EST) in Security and Citizenship: European and Global Dimensions

The Department of International Politics at Aberystwyth University established in 2006 a new Marie Curie Host Fellowships for Early Stage Research Training (EST) in Security and Citizenship: European and Global Dimensions. The EST programme was designed to focus on three principal interrelated themes of training and research: contemporary theories of European Security and Citizenship; the EU policy responses to contemporary security and citizenship challenges; and East and West European perspectives on security, citizenship and enlargement. The EST was envisaged to have three main training structures in the form of four new PhDs (recruited in the first year – 36 months), eight new Research Training Masters degrees (12 months) and an internship scheme in the areas of European Security, EU enlargement and citizenship at relevant European institutions, intergovernmental bodies, civil society groups, and security organisations.

The European Commission generously funded the proposal and the Department of International Politics has managed to successfully complete all aspects of the project.
