UACES 2010

On 06-08 September 2010 Dr E.Korosteleva convened a panel on the Eastern Partnership titled ‘EaP: Conception of, and Reception in, the Eastern Neighbourhood’ at the annual UACES conference hosted by the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium. Under the framework of her project, she presented a paper ‘'Transformative Power Europe and the Absent 'Other' in the EU's Relations with Eastern Europe' where she explored new directions for her research based on the findings of her project.

Under the aegis of the ESRC-funded project (RES-061-25-0001), Dr E. Korosteleva and Tanya Radchuk organised a roundtable at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London (24 June 2010) at which they presented their research findings on the effectiveness and problems of realisation of the Eastern Partnership initiative in three east European partner countries, Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova. The EU and Russia’s perspectives were also accounted in research allowing to obtain a fuller picture of the EU-Russia’s neighbourly relations with Eastern Europe: 'An Assessment of EU Approach to the Eastern Neighbours'

Cabinet of European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle, Brussels

On 25 June 2010 Dr E. Korosteleva addressed members of the Cabinet of Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy, Štefan Füle, in Brussels. She also conducted an hour-long workshop with the members of staff of DG RELEX, including the Eastern Partnership Taskforce. The officials positively welcomed the academic contribution, commenting that ‘these research findings fully supported our intuitive assumptions regarding the policy’s implementation’, and ‘would be very useful for the forthcoming review of the policy in the region’. 

BASEES 2010 Cambridge

Under  the aegis of the ESRC-funded project (RES-061-25-0001), Dr E. Korosteleva organised a round-table titled ‘Building Relations with Eastern Europe: Governance or Partnership?’ at the BASEES annual conference, Fitzwilliam College at Cambridge University (27-29 March 2010). There she presented a paper 'Governance or Partnership in the EU's relations with Eastern nightbours' providing an overarching conceptual framework for the project findings. Her conceptual introduction was followed by evidence-rich presentations of her national team members from Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova and Russia. The round-table has concluded a year-long fieldwork in the EU and Eastern Europe. A special issue ‘Eastern Partnership: a new Opportunity for Neighbours?’, based on the conference proceedings, is now commissioned for the Journal of Communist Studies and Transition Politics (forthcoming in March 2011).

Launch of Project 2008 Minsk, Belarus

Minsk 2008Dr Korosteleva convened a roundtable in Minsk at the Centre for Political Research (CPR), Belarusian State University on 30 May 2008. It involved teams from four East European countries – Russia, Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus. The teams met to discuss the project conceptual directions and empirical research strategies to maximise the final project outputs. The Belarusian team was commissioned to coordinate the project fieldwork in four countries and liaise with the Principal Investigator during the fieldwork and data analysis.
