Postgraduate Teaching contributions valued highly within the University

Sport and Exercise Science students at Aberystwyth University continue to experience a high standard of teaching with two members of the teaching team receiving the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award 2013. Arwel Wyn Jones and Ffion Curtis both graduated from Aberystwyth University in 2010 with first class BSc (hons) Science degrees. Both students then began their research PhD’s in the summer of 2010 funded by KESS. Arwel is looking at the effects of bovine colostrum on immune responses and upper respiratory tract symptoms following exercise, and Ffion is exploring the role of vitamin D and physical activity in type 2 diabetes. Both students have enjoyed teaching on a range of modules within the Sport and Exercise Science degree scheme. They have also both been very proactive in providing students with the opportunity to experience research first hand by welcoming them into the laboratory to work alongside them on their different research projects. Arwel and Ffion enjoy being part of the teaching team in the Department of Sport and Exercise Science, and have been fully supported in working towards becoming Fellows of The Higher Education Academy by successfully completing Postgraduate Certificates in Teaching in Higher Education (PGCTHE). Both Ffion and Arwel are looking forward to continuing their teaching activities, and are looking forward to welcoming this year’s Sport and Exercise Science students to Aberystwyth.
