Introduction
AberWorks is a scheme that enables student employment in different areas within the University. Students need to register for AberWorks first before access can be given to the jobs portal.
AberWorks is open and all departments are welcome to advertise vacancies to our student community. On this page, we will explain how you can use AberWorks.
Advertising your AberWorks job
To advertise a job, you need to fill out the AberWorks advert template (AberWorks Advert Template) and send it to HR@aber.ac.uk. Please note that we will need the job description in both English and Welsh. If you’re unable to translate the job description, we would be happy to request the translation on your behalf, however, please note that this may create a delay in advertising your vacant role.
If your job description is already translated, we will publish the role on the AberWorks portal within 2-3 working days following receipt of your e-mail.
There is no time limit to job adverts and we are happy to advertise your role for as long as necessary.
Please note that the maximum hours we can advertise roles is 15 hours per week during term time and up to 36.5 during vacation. Students on a tier 4 visa will be restricted to the amount of hours they can work and those hours a variable.
Managing your AberWorks job
All departmental administrators or Office Managers have access to AberWorks and they will have access to view and extend the advert of your role. If this isn’t an option for you, you’re welcome to contact us directly and we’d be happy to help.
If you have AberWorks access for your department you will be able to see the AberWorks portal (here: https://myhr.aber.ac.uk/othl/f?p=100:10:14914929117120) and see the list of jobs for your department. If you click the yellow pencil on the left-hand side of the job you will be able to see all the applicants.
Making changes to your AberWorks job
We don’t recommend departments making changes to adverts on any roles that are live. We can do that on your behalf, simply e-mail us on hr@aber.ac.uk and we’ll process your request.
Hiring students on AberWorks
To see who has applied for your vacant role, you will need to log into the portal and click through to your job. Located towards the bottom of the page are all the applicants that have applied to your role and you will be able to accept or reject applicants using the drop down toggle features.
Departments have the discretion to conduct interviews. Please only accept or reject applicants after you’ve interviewed them, don’t do this before the interview.
Paying students on AberWorks
AberWorkers are paid via the timesheet system. You will need input their hours to the timesheet system and please note that students are paid in arrears, this means that work undertaken in month A will be paid at the end of Month B. The deadline to submit hours worked during month A is traditionally the first week of month B.
