Pensions

Contributing to your pension allows you to build up a pot of money to provide for yourself and your family in retirement. As well as your contributions, the University contributes too, and you will receive tax relief. Benefits also include death in service provision and other pension scheme-specific family benefits.

Aberystwyth University Pension Plan (AUPP)

Staff at Grade 5 and below are eligible, immediately on starting their employment, to join the Aberystwyth University Pension Plan (AUPP), the occupational pension scheme provided by the University.

Employees at Grade 5 or below will be contractually enrolled into AUPP if: 

  • They have a contract of employment for 3 months or more
  • They are aged between 18 and 65 
  • Their annual earnings are more than £5,876

If the employee meets the above criteria, they will be automatically deemed a member of AUPP from their contractual start date and contributions will be deducted accordingly.

The employee is able to Opt Out of AUPP by requesting an Opt Out Form from the Payroll and Pensions Section of HR.

Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS)

Staff at Grade 6 and above are eligible, immediately on starting their employment, to join the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), the occupational pension scheme provided by the University.

Employees at Grade 6 and above will be contractually enrolled into USS if: 

  • They have a contract of employment for 3 months or more
  • They are aged between 18 and 65 
  • Their annual earnings are more than £5,876

 If the employee meets the above criteria, they will be automatically deemed a member of USS from their contractual start date and contributions will be deducted accordingly.

The employee is able to Opt Out of USS by requesting an Opt Out Form from the Payroll and Pensions Section of HR.
