Field Trials

Once the biochar has been produce it is packed into a purpose built treatment cell where mine effluent is diverted through the material. By monitoring the influent and effluent we can obtain a realistic understanding of the treatment capabilities and through the methodical analysis of the effluent we can nullify any potential risk to the environment.

We have developed three main treatment cell design which operate on different scales.

• A Vertical flow filter with a capacity of 5litres
• A horizontal flow filter with a 300 litre capacity
• A modular filter with a 1000 litre capacity

Through these field trials we can obtain information on the performance of the material in a dynamic environment. The field studies can highlight any influence from fluctuations in the  effluent concentration, discharge, temperature and also provide valuable information of the longevity of the systems.
