Welsh Geomorphology

Welsh Geomorphological Map Pilot Project

Krister Jansson, Glasser, Neil

The main objective of this project is to investigate the methods and data sources that can be used to construct a geomorphological map of Wales. The focus of the project will be on glacial landforms, with a view to establishing an ice-sheet model for Wales and a framework for constructing a geomorphological map with associated database. To achieve the main objective of the project we aim to review methods, data sources and approaches that can be use to investigate the glacial geomorphology of Wales. We also aim to investigate the means by which the geomorphology can be presented to users in a readily understandable and accessible manner.

Since the glaciated landscape of Wales is of considerable importance for conservation and tourism, the results of the project will be presented for the public in a written report to the Countryside Council for Wales, as an article in Earth Heritage and as a series of maps suitable for a GIS environment.
