Rose Cooper
Rose graduated from Aber in 2015 with a MPhys in Physics. She is currently studying for a PhD in Physics at Aberystwyth University. Rose also recently presented some of her work at the European Planetary Science Congress (EPSC). in October 2016.
What do you remember most about your time at Aber?
Nice people, nice town, nice environment to live and work in. It was easy to settle in and made living and studying here a great experience.
What are you doing now career-wise and how has your Aberystwyth Degree helped?
I am now studying for a PhD in the Solar System Physics group, studying the Sodium Atmosphere of Mercury. I became interested in this topic duing my undergraduate course in Aberystwyth and therefore I could develop skills I needed such as coding, data analysis and computing during my final project. My degree allowed me to learn about topics I previously hadn't had much experience in and expand my knowledge in a field I enjoy. After having the opportunity to study with some of the leaders in their respective fields during my undergrad (especially Huw Morgan and Manuel Grande), it followed that I remained here to continue my studying.
What advice would you have for a student doing your course now?
Persevere. There is a lot of work and sometimes it will be tough, but it's all worth it in the end. Make the most of your time here and take as many new opportunities as you can. As important as the work is, it's the experiences you have at university that stay with you.
