Annie Williams RWS RE RBA
Still Life: Prints and Watercolours
18 February to 28 March 2013
Annie Williams was born in London and grew up in Cardiff. She is the granddaughter of renowned Welsh artist Christopher Williams, and daughter of the portrait painter Ivor Williams. She trained and worked as a nurse at Great Ormond Street before studying art at City and Guilds, London, in the late 1960s. She is an elected member of the Royal Society of Watercolour Painters, Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers, and Royal Society of British Artists. She has won numerous awards and accolades, most recently the 2009 Turner Watercolour Award.
Annie now lives and works in north London. Her recent works are entirely still life. She enjoys shapes, pattern and colour, mixing the familiar with some abstraction, precision with suggestion. Her watercolours and etchings are drawn from elegant arrangements of a few simple objects – usually ceramic vessels – and set against backgrounds that are collaged from textiles or old newspaper cuttings.
