Semester Assessment | Written Portfolio A portfolio of the student's personal progress that offers a critical account of discovery and development over the 10 weeks of classes. Through critical reflection, The portfolio should reveal how the student has developed increasing understanding and application of this understanding in conceptual, practical and written description. Illustration may be included. The portfolio will demonstrate intellectual awareness and honest description of a personal journey over the course of the module. 1500 Words | 50% |
Semester Exam | Solo Presentation 5-7 minute solo presentation of pre-prepared and choreographed physical work. This assessment is a chance for the student to demonstrate a selection of principles drawn from the practical classes and to present them as a creative and crafted demonstration of their skills at Level 1. The assessors will expect to see effectiveness of the physical work that reveals a command of the dynamics of space and time, and the delivery of vocal/text material within the individual capacities of each person/body. | 50% |

Brief description
This module offers students a rigorous physical training that prepares them for a disciplined approach to studio-based theatre practice. The module introduces basic principles of human anatomy to foster an understanding of the human body and physical training exercises for flexibility and stamina to support developing students' presence and capacity for action. Students will also experiment with physical improvisation and voice work as well as observation of others. The work encourages students to consider the body as a medium of expression in order to deepen their engagement and understanding of any theatre and performance work they undertake.
Aims
To support focused development of the individual in relation to others in terms of ability to modulate and find nuance in physical and vocal expression.
To support understanding of the body as a tool of communication and of distinct expression.
To support awareness of the complexities of presence, relationship and clarity in communication, both non verbal and verbal.
