Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Perform basic matrix algebra, compute the determinant and inverse of a matrix.
Solve simultaneous linear equations
Integrate simple polynomial, rational and exponential functions; apply the result to the area under a curve,
Solve first-order ordinary differential equations
Brief description
This module continues the thread of MA02610 to introduce basic matrix techniques, integration and differential equations.
Aims
To introduce further fundamental techniques required in later courses.
Content
1. MATRIX ALGEBRA. Basic operations; transpose and determinant; matrix inverse; solving linear equations; transformation of vectors.
2. INTEGRATION. Integration of simple power and exponential functions. Substitution method; definite integrals; integration by parts; applications.
3. DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS. Concepts; first order solution methods, direct integration, separation of variables.
