Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Identify the anatomical features, structures and functions of the main physiological systems of the human body
Describe the key theories and principles that explain human movement and function
Collect data in a laboratory environment, safely and effectively
Communicate via a scientific laboratory report
Brief description
This module will introduce students to the anatomy and main physiological systems of the body and considers issues such as homeostatic balance and control. The module will provide the basis for development in subsequent modules such as, Sport and Exercise Physiology and Physical Activity for Health
Aims
.
Content
• Cardiovascular system
-Heart Rate, ECG, blood pressure
• Nervous system
• Respiratory system
-Spirometry
• Muscular system
-Eccentric, Concentric, Isometric
-Length tension, force velocity
• Skeletal system
• Immune and Lymphatic systems
While sports and exercise science students will study the responses of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems to physical activity and exercise, Biomedical Science students will instead study the digestive, renal and urogenital systems.
