Brief description
This module introduces you to the primary hazards facing society and the ways in which they are addressed and managed through a combination of lectures, seminars and local fieldwork. You will examine the physical processes, societal impacts and mitigation strategies for such hazards and consider historic trends and future projections in a changing climate.
The module offers you the opportunity to engage directly in your learning, to contribute to discussion and give presentations on your work in a small-group setting.

Content
Lectures will discuss a variety of themes, which may include extreme weather, riverine floods, seismic and volcanic hazards, and food and water security.
Scheme-specific seminars will encourage you to explore the lecture themes in more detail and develop core study skills that are central to success in Higher Education.
