Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

1. Demonstrate an awareness of the various stages of media production from conception to realisation, including camerawork and editing.

2. Successfully upload a media production onto the web for dissemination.

3. Work effectively as part of a production group.

4. Demonstrate a sharpened understanding of specific production roles.

5. Demonstrate an ability to reflect critically on their work as an individual within a production team.

Brief description

This module enables students to engage in a range of media production activities including the writing, researching, shooting and editing of short films across various genres and incorporating a number of styles. Students will engage in intensive filmmaking projects in various production and technical roles.


In addition, issues of media convergence will be addressed through the dissemination of these films via the internet as well as via the maintenance of a blog, which will allow a critical and theoretically-informed reflection on media production. Much of the time spent on the module will be self-directed learning in production groups.

Content

Lectures and workshops on writing; camerawork; editing; generic styles and forms (including silent film, narrative, non-narrative and experimental work); working as part of a production team; uploading material to the web; convergence issues.
