Brief description

This module provides an introduction to education policies and issues in England and Wales. It sets current education policy in the historic context of educational developments and change, whilst introducing some major contemporary education issues.

2. The growth of a schooled society
3. The Education Acts of 1944 and 1988
4. Control, Choice and Accountability
5. New Labour Education Policies in England and Wales
6. Issue 1: Educational Standards
7. Issue 2: Wales: Nationality, Culture and Schooling
8. Issue 3: Three Topical Controversies

Weeks 9 and 10 – Employability focus – “Putting what we have learnt into practice”
