Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Identify the main reasons for, and challenges to life cycle approaches to evaluating value chains

Match appropriate evaluation tools to value chains they could be used to assess

Brief description

This module provides students with a technical introduction to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Students will gain an understanding of concepts of Value Chains and identify tools suitable for assessing them

Content

Through a series of online lectures, guided reading and quizzes, students will explore:
- Value Chains, Circular Economies & Life Cycle Approaches to evaluation
- The uses and focus of different tools for evaluating Value Chains
- The main reasons for taking a life cycle approach to evaluating a Value Chain

Creative Problem Solving The MCQ exam will pose theoretical problems for the students to solve.
Critical and analytical thinking Students will be expected to synthesise complex information
Digital capability Students will be required to examine and synthesize quantitative data from a range of publications and databases to develop answers for their MCQ exam
Real world sense This module will provide the students with and introduction to Life Cycle Assessment; they will be assessed on their understanding of this information.
Subject Specific Skills Students will compare the uses and focus of different tools for evaluating value chains.
