Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Identify and practice veterinary business knowledge and skills specifically relevant to the newly qualified vet with the aim of developing differentiated skills to help graduates compete in the job market and improve early-career workplace effectiveness.
Recognise the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication in veterinary consultation and demonstrate these skills.
Demonstrate a systematic approach to working through bioethical problems using a model framework.
Develop an understanding of the scientific method, experimental design and its practical application
Interpret data relating to veterinary research.
Brief description
Professional Studies & Evidence Based Medicine Strand runs throughout Year 2 and continues the themes covered in this strand in year 1 relating to communication in the veterinary field, professional standards, ethics and evidence-based decisions. Year 2 will focus on advancing your understanding of the role of veterinary surgeons in research, designing a research proposal and how to analyse, interpret and communicate data. Additionally, you will learn more about the range of skills required for veterinary careers.
Content
Veterinary Surgeons require a range of professional skills to succeed in the wide range of jobs available throughout the field. This module continues your professional development by providing further training in clinical practical skills and communication, discussing the ethical challenges in relation to the veterinary field and advancing your understanding of how research experiments are designed, analysed and communicated by veterinary researchers to improve animal health. This will be achieved through problem-based group learning sessions, workshops, lectures, presentations and a student-led research proposal combining the different facets learned throughout the module.
