Brief description
The module will encourage students to take ownership of their personal, professional and academic development and utilize this to enhance their practice. Critical reflection in relation to current practice and professional roles will be an integral part of the portfolio. Evaluation of current research findings and exploration of the possibilities and implications for future development both personally and within the profession will be encouraged. Students will be assigned both a university supervisor and a placement mentor. This placement module will cover:

Content
Students will undertake 15 days in an early years setting to develop their skills to become an early years’ practitioner. Students will be focusing on the competencies outlined above. The professional practice portfolio will consist of evidence from practice in an early years setting. During their placement, students will be supported online to cover the following topics:
National Occupational Standards and professional development (2 hour lecture)
In addition, each student will have a designated supervisor and a placement mentor who will monitor the student’s progress.
Students will have completed placements in semester 2, year 2.
