First-year undergraduate students at Aberystwyth from September 2024 will benefit from:
- Guaranteed accommodation in University-owned Halls with free sports centre membership.
- Our generous scholarships and bursaries can be used to support academic and living costs.
- A free 16-25 Railcard, making it easier to travel to and from University.
- For international students, the International Accommodation Award can mean the cost of your university-managed housing can be included in your tuition fees.
- £1,000 discount for Aberystwyth Graduates wishing to pursue postgraduate study through the AberGrad Scholarship, along with many other grants and funding opportunities.
- A free Aberystwyth Town FC Season Pass. Students that excel in football should also consider applying for the Aber Town FC Scholarship, worth £4,000.
Aberystwyth is considered an affordable place to live in comparison with many other university towns and cities and has been ranked amongst the Top 5 Cheapest Student Cities in the UK for Student Accommodation by Student Crowd.

Student Life

Nestled between the Cambrian Mountains and Cardigan Bay, our location provides a rugged landscape of rolling hills, valleys, sand, and sea. Even the famous national parks, of Snowdonia and Pembrokeshire, sit a short distance north and south of Aberystwyth, respectively, too. Our location is ideal if you’re interested in outdoor pursuits. Our welcoming, inclusive, and vibrant student town is a safe environment in which to socialise.

Accommodation
We guarantee accommodation to all first-year students who choose to live in university-managed accommodation. We offer a range of accommodation options, from catered to self-catered and en-suite to studio apartments. Many residences are within walking distance to the main University buildings and some even offer a spectacular sea view. Students who live in our university-managed accommodation receive a free platinum membership to the University’s Sports Centre, which gives you unlimited access to its facilities and fitness classes.
Study Abroad
Students on almost all degree programmes will have an opportunity to study or work abroad. Many of our courses include an integrated year studying abroad. Opportunities include a semester or an entire academic year studying in one of our partnered universities or undertaking your work experience placement relative to your degree. Our Global Opportunities team will help you to identify the best option for you.
Work experience and Year in industry
We offer a number of undergraduate and Masters courses that include an integrated year in industry. If your course doesn’t include a year in industry, our Careers Service has a range of work experience placements for you to choose from. Whether you’re undertaking a work experience placement or completing a year in industry, both options will give you an opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience and enhance your CV on graduation.
Research
Our research is recognised as world-leading and is internationally recognised (REF 2021). We’re proud to have contributed to significant global projects which include Climate Change and global health issues. At Aberystwyth, you will be taught by experts in their fields who apply their research to their teaching.
