Online & Distance Learning

Online and distance learning courses offer you a flexible approach to study, allowing you to work at your own pace, in your own place. You can choose when and where to study, reducing the impact on other commitments such as work and family. Online and distance learning allows you to gain the qualifications needed to progress within your profession, or for your own personal fulfilment, without the inconvenience of leaving your place of work to go back to university to study.

"Distance learning was the ideal way of mixing work and study"
Erica Rae, BSc Information & Library Studies graduate

"The module was fantastically well organised, the support given by all the tutors and admin staff was excellent and I am really enjoying learning alongside my job - I would recommend it to anyone."
Hannah Wilkinson, MSc Sustainable and Efficient Food Production student

We offer a variety of courses by online and distance learning through in Information Studies, Law & Criminology and Biological Sciences. We pursue a student centred, flexible, open learning approach which has proved not only popular with our students, but very successful in managing to make studying at a distance as rewarding and enjoyable as possible, particularly for those in full time employment or living outside the UK. Each module includes recorded lectures (see sample) from academics and industry experts, along with guided readings, discussion forums and assignments. Whilst our Information Studies and Law & Criminology distance learning students participate in residential study schools, Biological Sciences courses are entirely online. All are supported by web-based conferencing facilities which enable them to communicate with each other and the course tutors, easing the feeling of isolation that can sometimes be felt by distance learners.
