Wellbeing Team

The Aberystwyth Wellbeing Service is a support system designed to enhance our community members' overall wellbeing and ensure they get the best out of their time at Aberystwyth University. Our service offers a range of resources including counselling options, online resources, and a daily drop-in service to address student needs. Where appropriate, we engage with our local partners and statutory services to help students get the support they need. Our team of experienced professionals are committed to promoting positive mental health, fostering resilience, and empowering individuals to have a positive experience of University life.

What can we help you with?

Counselling support:

We offer a one-at-a-time (OAAT) service that you can access by completing our online wellbeing registration form.

We offer appointments Monday to Friday both during term time and over the summer holidays, 9am until 5pm.

What to expect from the one-at-a-time service?

Our service is here to offer a warm, supportive, and non-judgmental space where students can freely explore their thoughts and feelings on any issues currently affecting their academic studies.

Our counsellors offer appointments on a one-at-a-time basis (OAAT) and each session will last up to 50 minutes, either in-person or online via Microsoft Teams.

During this session, counsellors will work with you to explore your needs, identify a goal for the session and focus on building on your existing strengths. The aim is to support you in a positive and proactive way, helping you engage more confidently with your studies and university life. At the end of the session, we will send you a summary of the discussed actions from your appointment.

If you’d like another session, you can book one after a recommended pause of 2-6 weeks - this gives you time to reflect and try out the strategies and actions you discussed from your previous session. If you’d like a follow-up appointment after six weeks, you’ll need to complete the registration form again.

Ongoing support options

For students who would prefer to work on their difficulties over a block of planned sessions, counsellors will support by signposting to external organisations. Students can self-refer to Area 43, a local online counselling service, offering ongoing counselling to those under thirty who are registered with a Ceredigion GP.
