Dr Chris Beedie's research into psychology of drugs in sport
05 February 2014
Dr Chris Beedie has recently carried out research into psychological effects on the effectiveness of taking performance-enhancing drugs. He has found that the mere belief that taking a drug will enhance performance can itself have a powerful effect, even if no drug has really been taken (placebo). Likewise, negative beliefs about the drug can limit the effect. He examines the possible implications of these findings for the reputation of sport in the future, given the damage done in recent decades by drug scandals.
More details about the research can be found in this WalesOnline article.
