Aberystwyth is the best university in Wales for student satisfaction, according to the latest National Student Survey (NSS) which is published today, Thursday 15 July, 2021.
The survey confirms Aberystwyth’s status as the top university in Wales for the 6th year in succession.
Of the universities featured in latest edition of The Times / Sunday Times Good University Guide, Aberystwyth is yet again one of the top 10 universities in the UK for overall student satisfaction, a position it has held for the last 6 years.
The University also continues to outperform the UK sector average for overall student satisfaction, 8 percentage points above for 2021 (7 percentage points in 2020).
Professor Elizabeth Treasure, Vice-Chancellor at Aberystwyth University, said: “I would like to thank all staff and students for the huge efforts they have made during this acacdemic year, which has been exceptional in every sense. Colleagues across the University have left no stone unturned as they have ensured that they could offer as much in-person teaching as possible, adapting their teaching methods to provide every opportunity for our students to meet their learning objectives. Equally, our students have shown a willingness to embrace the need for flexibility in a changing environment, and exceptional commitment to their learning. These contributions have been recognised in these NSS results.”
“Today’s results reflect the challenging circumstances faced by students and staff alike over the past 18 months and provide valuable information for the University as we firm up plans for the 2021/22 academic year. Naturally, our focus now turns towards the new academic year and I am very pleased that we can plan for an educational experience far closer to what we provided before the pandemic.”
The survey also includes some excellent news for Aberystwyth University’s Students’ Union, which saw it become top in Wales for student satisfaction.
Sabina O’Donoghue, President of Aberystwyth Students’ Union said: “We are thrilled that despite one of the most complex years we have ever experienced that we have managed to increase our positive NSS responses to become the highest scoring Students’ Union in Wales for student satisfaction. Huge congratulations to the University for another high scoring year and remaining in the top spot for HEIs in Wales.
“We are extremely proud of the way the Students’ Union and the University have worked together to keep the student experience at the heart of any and all actions and decisions taken throughout a challenging year. The Students’ Union will continue to work hard to make sure that student satisfaction remains high at Aberystwyth and to ensure that Aber students love student life”
The National Student Survey (NSS) is an annual survey of nearly half a million students in universities, colleges and other providers across the UK.
The survey asks final-year undergraduate students to score their university across a wide range of measures of student satisfaction.
They include quality of teaching, learning opportunities, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, learning community and the student voice.
The NSS is commissioned by the Office for Students (OfS), on behalf of the UK funding and regulatory bodies – the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW), the Department for Economy Northern Ireland (DfENI), and the Scottish Funding Council (SFC), and undertaken independently by Ipsos MORI.
The 2021 year’s survey opened on 6 January and closed on 30 April 2021.
